Granada: entre moros, gitanos y poesía
Granada carries three histories at once — Moorish, gitano, and poetic — and they're still alive in its streets, its music, and its language today. This course explores Spanish history, literature, and culture through real Spanish, accessible from A2.
Level: A2+ (accessible from A2)
Format: Group (min 8 / max 10) or Private 1:1, online or in person
Delivery: Online or in person
Duration: 6 sessions, booked individually, 60 minutes each
Price: £35 per person, per lesson
Dates: Book individually — flexible scheduling
What Will Be Covered?
Every session works outward from real material — a poem, a song, a piece of history — so culture is never a side note to the grammar. It's the whole point.
You'll explore the Moorish legacy of Granada and the Alhambra, the influence of gitano culture, flamenco, and cante jondo, and the poetry of Federico García Lorca and the Romancero gitano. Sessions also cover the Reconquista and the fall of Granada in 1492, Andalusian oral tradition and storytelling, and the vocabulary needed to discuss art, history, and poetry — all built around reading and discussing short authentic texts and poems.
By the end of this course, you'll be able to:
1. Discuss key moments in Granada's Moorish and Andalusian history in Spanish.
2. Recognise and talk about the influence of gitano culture, flamenco, and cante jondo.
3. Read and engage with short extracts from Lorca and the Romancero gitano, even at a lower level.
4. Build historical and cultural vocabulary alongside everyday conversational Spanish.
5. Keep talking through a gap in vocabulary using practical wildcard strategies, rather than stalling.
6. Connect language learning to genuine cultural curiosity, not just functional needs.
7. Feel confident exploring Spanish history, literature, and culture as a living, ongoing conversation — not a closed subject.
